Introduction to Climbing

Learn how to safely climb top rope! This 2-hour course welcomes new climbers with little to no experience. Students will learn how to properly put on a climbing harness, basic knot tying, and how to Top Rope belay – manage the rope while a climber is climbing. This includes safety checks, climbing commands, and basic climbing technique. This course is open to all persons aged 14 and up.

Cost: $15 per person (free for current SBRG Members). Cost includes day pass and full gear rental.

Introduction to Indoor Sport Climbing

Already experienced in top roping and ready to take your skills to the next level? This 3-hour course is designed for climbers interested in taking on the exciting challenge of indoor lead climbing. Students will learn the differences between top roping and leading, proper lead belay technique, and how to lead climb. This includes how to clip draws, catching and taking falls, and lead climbing movement. This course is open to all climbers aged 14 and up with experience climbing indoors. You must be Top Rope certified at SBRG.

Cost: $50 per person. Cost includes day pass and full gear rental.

Anchor Building 101

Ready to start climbing outside? Lots of areas use bolts designed to make setting up a top rope anchor easy. Learn how to efficiently build secure anchors on fixed bolts! As part of this half-day course, students will learn the necessary knots, how to identify trustworthy bolts, and what goes into a solid and redundant climbing anchor. This course is open to all persons aged 14 and up and is designed for those with some prior top rope experience.

Cost: $65 per person
All course materials provided. This is ground school only and will not include climbing.
