What is Climb Out?

Climb Out is a queer-run nonprofit out of Santa Barbara and Ventura counties with the goal of creating safe, supportive spaces for our community to mingle, especially in the outdoors. Our focus is primarily on rock climbing, but we also hike, camp, and hold meetups, among other things!

What does it mean to be a “member” of Climb Out?

A Climb Out member is someone who has specifically signed up for our free membership. Membership grants a number of perks, including early registration for climbing/camping trips, more opportunities to steer the direction of the organization, access to new merch before it’s publicly released, and the ability to attend the annual members-only picnic in May! I’ve never climbed before. Can I still attend a Climb Out event?

Yes! We frequently have attendees who have never tried rock climbing before and we are more than happy to help you get started. If you are uninterested in climbing and just want to hang out with the group, you are still welcome to join us at most events. The exception to this would be a class or event with a certain skill prerequisite, which will be clearly listed in its description.

Are queer allies also welcome at events?

Yes! We are never going to grill you on your relationship to the queer community, and plenty of attendees bring along their cis/straight friends and family members for support. All we ask is that you keep in mind that you are in a queer space and do your best to be respectful.

Are children welcome at events?

Our events are open to all ages unless otherwise noted.

Are dogs welcome at events?

This can depend on the location, type of event, and the dog. Usually a leashed, well-behaved dog is welcome unless otherwise noted, but if you have any doubts, please don’t hesitate to ask first!

How do I RSVP for Queer Climb Night?

No RSVP is required. Queer Climb Nights are loose events, so just show up, check in with the front desk staff, and grab a nametag from our table. We will always be present to help answer any questions and to get you pointed in the right direction. Note: day use/gear rental fees are generally required by the venue, but financial aid is available. Contact us at info@climboutpride.org if you need any assistance in order to attend.

I thought I signed up for the mailing list, but haven’t received anything.

If you’ve already double-checked your spam folder, chances are we don’t have your email address written correctly in our database. This can happen for a number of reasons—usually a typo on our end or a misread of a handwritten address—but is easily fixable by emailing us at info@climboutpride.org .

Does Climb Out have 501(c)(3) status?

Climb Out is an unincorporated, nonprofit association and qualifies as a tax-exempt Section 501(c)(3) charitable organization. However, due to our small size, we are not required to apply for formal recognition from the IRS and therefore do not have a 501(c)(3) number. As we grow, we expect this to change.

How are donations used?

Organizing trips, printing flyers, booking venues, keeping our website running, building our gear library… the list goes on. We are always in need of donations, and all donations are used to keep us doing what we do!

I have a question that has not been addressed here.
